Day Two at the WAMSFAT x NSSF Sports Camp – Energy, Colour, and Connection

Day Two at the WAMSFAT x NSSF Sports Camp – Energy, Colour, and Connection

Early mornings at camp mean one thing: a good stretch and light exercise to wake the body and mind. By sunrise, the students were already up, active, and buzzing with anticipation for the day ahead. At the Agroterra Sports Complex, the crisp morning air was filled with laughter, footsteps, and the rhythmic beat of warm-up music as over 600 students got ready to make history.

This isn’t just any camp — it’s the first-ever WAMSFAT x NSSF Sports Camp, a unique week-long experience blending sports training, mentorship, and personal development for young athletes from across the six South West states.

Meet the Houses

As the sun rose higher, the friendly rivalries kicked in. Four houses — Red, Yellow, Blue, and Green — took centre stage, each brimming with confidence, unity, and team pride. From their chants to their coordinated outfits, you could feel the competitive spirit building. Which one will rise to the top by the end of the week?

The Grand Opening Ceremony

The official opening was nothing short of spectacular. Colours. Royalty. Vibes. The atmosphere was electric as students, coaches, and dignitaries came together to mark the start of this landmark event. The energy was infectious — smiles were wide, cheers were loud, and every corner of the venue seemed to pulse with excitement.

Mrs. Olabisi Joseph, President of the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF), captured the heart behind this gathering with her inspiring words:

“We want to positively engage them the right way while they are young.”

True to her words, she didn’t just deliver a speech — she joined the students on the dance floor, proving that leadership can be as vibrant and joyful as the youth it serves.

Culture on Stage

Adding a rich cultural touch, the Yewa Traditional Dance Group lit up the ceremony with melodious tunes and captivating rhythms. Their performance was more than entertainment — it was a celebration of heritage, connecting the young athletes to the traditions of the land they represent.

Words from the Host

Alhaji Rasheed Afonja, Chief Executive and Proprietor of Agroterra, warmly welcomed all participants and guests. He expressed his appreciation to NSSF, WAMSFAT, the Ogun State government, and every supporter who made this vision possible. His pride in hosting the event was evident — and the state-of-the-art sports facilities stood as a testament to his commitment.

Opening Moments to Remember

From the vibrant cultural displays to the presence of traditional leaders and the heartfelt speeches, Day Two’s opening ceremony set the tone for the week. It wasn’t just a start — it was a statement: this camp is about excellence, unity, and opportunity.

As the first activities kicked off, you could feel a powerful mix of ambition and joy in the air. The stage is now set, the teams are ready, and the journey toward growth — in sports and in life — has begun.
